These epiphytes are referred to as widow makers because when it rains they can hold so much water in their leaf bases and in the humus that they are so good at making that they can suddenly snap the branch their on and plummet many metres to the ground Any one silly enough to pitch their tent below these epiphytes may never be found such is their huge size.
